Intune Remote Help Now Available in Microsoft 365 E3 and E5

2 July 2026 By Hal Sclater

Microsoft Intune Remote Help is a secure remote assistance solution that lets IT admins remotely connect to users’ devices to troubleshoot issues. Previously this required an additional add-on license, but it’s now included with Microsoft 365 E3 and Microsoft 365 E5 subscriptions.

What is Remote Help?

Remote Help provides a secure, remote desktop-like experience directly within the Intune console. It’s a alternative to third-party tools like TeamViewer or Quick Assist, with the advantage of being fully integrated with your existing Microsoft 365 environment.

Key features include:

  • Remote control — Full desktop control to navigate and fix issues
  • Remote view — View-only mode for troubleshooting without direct interaction
  • Chat — In-session chat for communicating with the end user
  • Elevation — Run tasks as administrator when needed
  • Audit logging — All sessions are logged for compliance and review
  • Conditional Access integration — Sessions respect your existing CA policies

Note: If you’re on Business Premium, you’ll still need to purchase the Intune Remote Help add-on separately, or consider upgrading to E3 if remote help is a priority.

How to Set It Up

  1. Assign licenses — Ensure your help desk staff have M365 E3 or E5 licenses assigned
  2. Enable in Intune — Go to Endpoint ManagerTenant administrationRemote Help and configure the settings
  3. Assign roles — Grant the Remote Help permission to your support team via Intune role-based access control (RBAC)
  4. Install on devices — The Remote Help app is pre-installed on Windows 11 devices enrolled in Intune. For Windows 10, it can be deployed as a Win32 app via Intune
  5. Start a session — In the Intune console, select a device and choose Remote Help from the toolbar

Why This Matters

For organisations already on E3 or E5, this is a significant cost saving — no need to budget for a separate remote support tool or pay per-device for add-ons. It also keeps all management activity within the Microsoft ecosystem, simplifying compliance and audit trails.
